Dental Advice.

We are unable to provide any emergency dental work in the Emergency Department.
You are advised to see your own dentist as soon as possible so that the cause of the dental problem can be established and treated appropriately.

Dental Advice

You may be seen and assessed by an Emergency Nurse Practitioner or GP here and pain relief can be provided as necessary.

In certain cases antibiotic treatment may be indicated, but this will be dependent on the clinical examination findings.

Self help treatment for dental problems

Take pain relief such as paracetamol or paracetamol with codeine (co-codamol) in addition to an anti‑inflammatory (such as ibuprofen).
Use salt water or aspirin mouthwash and gargle regularly throughout the day, especially following meals.
Use a cold compress of soaked cotton wool or gauze over the affected area to ease the pain (an ice cube may also help to soothe the discomfort).
