Wound Closure Strips (Child).

Your child’s wound has been treated with Wound Closure Strips. They have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid their recovery.

Wound Closure Strips Information

Instead of stitches we have used special strips of sticky paper, sometimes butterfly stitches, to close your child’s wound. They will help the wound heal quickly with only a small scar. They will usually fall off by themselves, or the doctor or nurse may tell you to take them off when your child’s wound has healed. To do this, you should gently peel each end of the strip towards the middle.

You should:

Give your child a medicine, such as junior paracetamol or ibuprofen, to relieve any pain.

Make sure that your child keeps the wound clean and dry. If it does get wet, gently pat it dry with a clean towel.

Keep the strips on for 5–7 days unless the nurse or doctor tells you to take them off sooner.

Take your child to your nearest Emergency Department if:

Your child gets a lot of pain.

The wound looks very swollen.

The wound oozes or leaks.

The edges of the wound do not heal together.

You are worried about them.
