You have been treated for Herpes Simplex Virus. You have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid your recovery.

Herpes Simplex Virus Information

Herpes Simplex Virus is the virus that causes cold sores and this can also affect the eye.

Once you have had a cold sore infection the virus can remain dormant and recur at a later date.

In the eye, the Herpes Simplex Virus can cause an ulcer on the cornea. This condition is treated with an ointment called Aciclovir and is applied five times a day.

The ulcers may last up to two or three weeks and in a few people may last longer. If this is the case you will probably be sent to an Ophthalmic Outpatients’ Clinic where different treatments may be used.
