The Specialist Teams are not based in ED and although they have agreed to see you, they may be reviewing other patients who have been referred to them or may be dealing with emergencies.

What happens when I arrive in ED?

On arrival to the ED, the Reception Team will book you in. A streamer nurse will then assess you and advise the relevant team that you are in the ED. Following this an in-patient bed will be requested and you will need to wait in the ED for your bed to become available.

Can I see an ED doctor instead?

Your GP has decided that you need a specialist opinion therefore you will not see an ED doctor.
However, if your condition has deteriorated, or prompt treatment is required, you may see an ED doctor first to initiate treatment whilst waiting for the specialist.

What happens next?

The Specialist Team will review you either in the ED or on a ward.
