New Fracture Clinic.

You have been treated for a broken bone and are now considered fit to be discharged. An orthopaedic consultant will conduct a review of the records and will then tell you what will happen next

A new model of running fracture clinic was first started in Glasgow in 2010 and is becoming increasingly established throughout the UK. More information can be found here:

Since then, the safety of running a NFC and the positive patient satisfaction it brings has been well documented in the medical literature.

The benefits of a NFC include:

An orthopaedic consultant will conduct a review of the records and X-rays
In some cases, there is no need for you to attend a traditional fracture clinic and so there is no need to take time off work or make arrangements for childcare etc
Complex injuries will be directed to the most appropriate orthopaedic consultant
Children will be directed to specific children’s fracture clinics
In some cases, further scans will be required and these will be organised first, so when you are seen, all the information is available for the orthopaedic surgeon

What happens at the NFC?

Your records and X-rays will be carefully reviewed by an orthopaedic consultant and a treatment plan will be put in place.

How does it work?

We will contact you following your attendance to the Emergency Department (ED), usually within 2–3 days of your treatment. If you were seen in the ED between Friday and Sunday, you will be contacted by the following Tuesday afternoon. Please note you will be contacted on a Wednesday after a bank holiday.

There are two ways we may contact you:

You may receive a phone call from the fracture clinic team within 2–3 days of your ED attendance

OR

Alternatively, you may be informed of a date to attend our in-person fracture clinic by letter, text or phone call
