If your child is in pain or has a fever, we recommend that you give them medicines such as paracetamol (Calpol or Disprol) or ibuprofen (Junifen). These are available from chemists.

Dosages

Ibuprofen

(Junifen)

Less than 1 year – not recommended

1–2 years – 2.5 ml, 3–4 times a day

3–7 years – 5 ml, 3–4 times a day

8–12 years – 10 ml, 3–4 times a day

Paracetamol

(Calpol, Disprol)

Less than 3 months – on doctor’s advice only

3 months–1 year – 60–120 mg every 4–6 hours (maximum of 4 doses in 24 hours)

1–5 years – 120–250 mg every 4–6 hours (maximum of 4 doses in 24 hours)

6–12 years – 250–500 mg every 4–6 hours (maximum of 4 doses in 24 hours)

Please Remember

Do not give aspirin or any medicines that contain it to children under 12 years old.

If you are not sure about any doses, ask your chemist.
