Ketamine Sedation Advice for Parents.

Your child has been sedated with Ketamine. They have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid their recovery.

In the Emergency Department:

Keep child on their side

Ensure vomit bowl at hand

Child may seem confused, say inappropriate words, sing or cry as he/she wakes up

Child can go home once fully recognises parents and medical review performed

At home:

No independent walking for approximately 2 hours to avoid risk of falling – early to bed

Keep child still as rapid movement can precipitate an episode of vomiting

Nil by mouth for 2 hours

After 1–2 hours risk of vomiting is less

Give clear fluids only
