You have been treated for a suspected fracture of your wrist. You have had a thorough examination and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following instructions will aid your recovery.
Scaphoid Fractures
Although the X-rays that have been taken on your wrist do not seem to show any fracture (break) of the bones, there is a possibility that a fracture has occurred, but cannot yet be seen on the X-ray. This situation is known to occur occasionally and affects a small, but important bone in the wrist called the Scaphoid Bone.
You should:
- Keep the splint on your wrist until your next appointment at the Fracture Clinic.
- Only take off the splint to wash your hands.
You should not:
- Miss your Fracture Clinic appointment as it is very important.
The wrist will be X-rayed again at this stage, in order to show whether there is indeed a fracture – if there is a break, it is nearly always possible to see it after this time.
