The Minor Injuries Unit is currently open 9am – 5pm (last admission 4.30pm), 7 days per week. This is a walk in service and no appointment is required.

What is the Minor Injury Unit?
The unit is a nurse led service which provides treatment for minor illness and injury
How does it work?
On arrival, you will be seen by a nurse who will assess your injury.
If your injury is confirmed as minor, your condition will be treated appropriately.
You will be given clear advice on the care of your injury and your GP will be informed.
If your injury is not minor and you require urgent treatment, you will be referred immediately to your GP or the local Emergency Department, who will be sent the relevant details of your injury.

We try our best not to keep you waiting. However, at times waiting times may be increased. Our reception will keep you informed.
How do I know if my injury is minor?
These injuries can be assessed and/or treated in the unit:
- Minor burns and cuts
- Minor muscle or joint sprains
- Superficial splinters
- Foreign bodies in the eyes
- Minor head injuries
- Insect bites and stings
- Minor wounds
These injuries cannot be treated in the unit:
- Major fractures
- Breathing difficulties, chest pain or heart attacks
- Serious head injury where loss of consciousness, loss of vision or memory has occurred
- Drug overdoses
- Severe bleeding
- Large areas of burns
- Multiple or serious injuries caused by road or machinery accidents
- We do not offer a pharmacy service
X-Ray facilities
Are open to appointments for outpatients and GP patients only and provided from:
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 12:30pm, and 1:30pm – 4:50pm
The X-Ray facilities are not available at the weekends or on Bank Holidays.
