Offer plenty of clear drinks. Do not worry if they refuse milk or solids, they will eat once they feel better.
Check the room temperature is neither too hot nor too cold.
Check your child does not have too many clothes or bedclothes on. Never try to sweat out a fever.
Sponging with luke warm water may help keep them cool. Stop if shivering occurs.
Infant paracetamol will reduce the temperature and help your child feel more comfortable. Always read guidance on usage when giving your child any medication. Remember to check the correct dosage for your baby’s age. If your child seems to have an extreme reaction, eg, inconsolable screaming, very inflamed injection site, a high temperature which does not reduce with the above advice or you are worried, please contact your doctor.
