Thumb Spica (Surgical Adhesive Tape).

Your thumb injury has been treated with a Thumb Spica. You have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid your recovery.

Care Instructions for a Thumb Spica

Your thumb injury has been treated with an Surgical Adhesive Tape (Thumb Spica), which must be worn for as long as one week, or as advised by the doctor or nurse.

Instructions

If your thumb becomes swollen, causing blueness, coldness, whiteness, numbness or a feeling of ‘pins and needles’, please remove the strapping immediately.
The bandage must be kept dry.
The hand must be raised as advised.
If you are unhappy with your progress, please contact your GP.

Exercise

Pain permitting, regularly touch your thumb to each finger in turn.
