Asthma advice for both Adults and Children, after discharge from the Emergency Department.
- You must let your GP know that you had to attend the Emergency Department with an asthma attack.
- Make an appointment with your GP as soon as possible.
- Take this card with you as the information on it will help your GP manage your asthma.
Asthma May Get Worse! What can I look out for
- Worsening breathlessness, wheezing, coughing or a tight chest.
- Reliever (blue) inhaler (use spacer or face mask in children) giving little or no relief.
- Too breathless to talk, walk or play.
- Exhaustion/drowsiness.
What to do
- Phone your GP (general Practitioner) or
- Dial 999 for an ambulance and return to the ED.
- Continue to take your reliever (blue) inhaler every 2 minutes whilst waiting for medical help.
- Stay as calm as possible.
