Your child has been given Pain Relief Medicine. They have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid their recovery.
Relief of Pain and/or Fever in Children
If you wish to provide pain relief for your child, we suggest the use of paracetamol or ibuprofen. Either of these preparations is also effective in reducing the temperature in feverish children.
(1) Paracetamol
Infant paracetamol suspension (120 mg/5 ml)
3–6 months – 2.5 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
6–24 months – 5 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
2–4 years – 7.5 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
4–6 years – 10 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
Paracetamol six plus suspension (250 mg/5 ml)
6–8 years – 5 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
8–10 years – 7.5 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
10–12 years – 10 ml (4 times in 24 hours)
(2) Ibuprofen Syrup
(Ibuprofen 100 mg in 5 ml)
Not to be given to children with Asthma
Less than 1 year – not recommended
1–2 years – 2.5 ml (3 times daily)
3–7 years – 5 ml (3 times daily)
8–12 years – 10 ml (3 times daily)
