Ingrowing Toenails.

You have been treated for an Ingrown Toenail. You have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following will aid your recovery.

To avoid problems with ingrowing toenails

You should:

Cut your toenails properly.
See a chiropodist if you have difficulty cutting your toenails.
Leave the corners 2–3 mm long after cutting the nail, especially the big toenail.
Bathe your feet in hot water and apply Savlon or other antiseptic if redness develops.

You should not:

Allow your toenails to grow into your skin.
Cut your toenails when redness develops.

If you follow the above advice and continue to suffer from an ingrowing toenail, please see your doctor who will treat you, and if necessary, will refer you to the hospital for further treatment.

Please remember

Ingrowing toenails are due to wrongly cutting the nails or by wearing tight fitting shoes. If you avoid these two points, you should never have to attend hospital for removal of ingrowing toenails.
