Scaphoid Fractures.

You have been treated for Scaphoid Fracture. You have had a thorough examination and are now considered fit to be discharged. The following instructions will aid your recovery

Scaphoid Fractures

Although the X-rays that have been taken on your wrist do not seem to show any fracture (break) of the bones, there is a possibility that a fracture has occurred, but cannot yet be seen on the X-ray. This situation is known to occur occasionally and affects a small, but important bone in the wrist called the scaphoid bone.

We treat suspected fractures in a special splint with a thumb extension.

You should:

Keep the splint on your wrist until your next appointment at the review in 10 days. You will be reassessed with possible further radiological investigations.
Only take off the splint to wash your hands.

Elevate the limb as much as possible.

Exercise all joints not in a splint.

It is advised to take regular simple painkillers in the first few days of injury.

Keep your next appointment as it is very important.
