You have been treated for a Small Burn. You have been thoroughly examined and are now considered fit to be discharged. the following will aid your recovery.
Small Burns
You do not have a serious burn. We will tell you if you need to come for a further check. Your treatment will help stop an infection in your burn. You can take painkillers if you need to.
Face burns – Wash your face with water once a day. Do not use perfumed soap or creams, as they will irritate your skin.
Hand or foot burns – We may put cream on your burn and cover it with a plastic bag. Do not worry if the skin becomes white and soggy; this will settle very quickly after the bag is removed.
Other burns – These will be covered with a dressing. Keep it dry.
You must come back if:
- Your dressing gets wet.
- Your dressing falls off or loosens.
- Your plastic bag fills up with fluid.
- You feel ill or feel very hot.
- You have a lot of pain or swelling.
Keep a burnt arm or leg up in the air as much as you can. Keep moving any joints near a burn to prevent stiffness. Your burn should be healed in about 10 days. Strong sunlight may hurt your skin for 6 months. Use a high strength sun block cream to stop this happening.
